Last night I went to my first metal show in a while, to see {else} play with a couple other bands at The Metal Grill in Cudahy.

Before the show, I went out with the band to try some beers and get some dinner at Tornado Brewing Company (check out a review). The beers were weird, and fantastic. The standard Wisconsin Friday bar food (fish fry, hamburgers, etc) was delicious, and came with a stunning variety of homemade sauces.

After dinner, we headed over to the venue for setup.

Gloves are necessary to move these bricks, used to keep a massive drum set anchored while playing.

Magma Dragon

I’ll admit – most of my motivation to go to this show was to see Magma Dragon. I’ve heard a lot about them, but have never seen the band perform before. They really delivered. Their Facebook page promises: “We make metal music about swords, dragons, wizards, heroes and conquering armies. Shit that MATTERS.” How could anyone resist that?
