Last night I went to a show nearby, to see Calamity Janes and the Fratney Street Band, Pay The Devil, and my new friend Myles Coyne. I took along my camera to get some more low-light shooting practice.
This is Myles. He’s a heck of a musician, and has recently been featured on one of my favorite blogs, Those Who Dig. Turns out we’re both from the same city, and know some of the same people. I’ve heard a lot about him in the Milwaukee music scene so it was good to finally meet him.
He somehow accomplishes the rare feat of capturing a room with just a guitar.
Pay The Devil
Pay The Devil is one of my favorite local bands, though I’m likely a bit biased. My husband has been playing with them for a while, and I even got to play with them last summer for Irish Fest. (Playing tin whistle a bit can get you into lots of places, I guess?)
The point in the show where Ivan Eisenberg starts making faces like this is usually a pretty good point. These guys get into it, and I love that.
Calamity Janes and the Fratney Street Band
I just recently learned about these guys, and I am in love. I heard about them, like Myles, through Those Who Dig – they were also recently featured.
This guy was seriously ripping it up on fiddle. So good.
One of my favorite things about their set was enjoying their vocal harmonies. This is such a treat to me. These ladies know what they’re doing.
Super fun show – so lucky to have music like this in my city.
